Elmhurst Choral Union sings major classical choral works with a professional orchestra and soloists. We perform twice each year, early December and early Spring, and appear occasionally with Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra concerts and at special events in Elmhurst.
We are a community chorus, and our singers range from high school students to retirees. We perform and rehearse at Elmhurst College, where we have been based since our founding in 1952.
Our recent performances include Handel's Messiah (which we sing every other December), Bach's B Minor Mass, Vaughn Williams' Hodie, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Mozart's Mass in C Minor, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Mendelssohn's Symphony no. 2, Robert Ray's Gospel Mass, and the requiems of Mozart, Durufle, and Brahms. In appearances with the Elmhurst Symphony, we have sung Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Orff's Carmina Burana, Mahler's Symphonies no. 2 and 3, the "chorus added" version of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, and choruses from French and Italian opera.
Congratulations to ECU soprano Jeanette Hachmeister, recipient of the Golden Apple Award for her excellence in teaching. Elmhurst Mayor DiCianni named May 14 "Jeanette Hachmeister Day" in her honor.
