New members describe our group as friendly and hard working. Some of our members have sung with us for over 20 years!
Make new friends while you enjoy singing major classical works and the humor and easygoing nature of our Director, Jim MacDonald. Improve your vocal technique and grow in musical knowledge with the ECU.
We perform with full professional orchestra and soloists.
Rehearsals: The Elmhurst Choral Union rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. in Irion Hall on the campus of Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect in Elmhurst (see our Directions page for details). There is on-campus parking (a nice big lot on the north side of Alexander), but it's not right next to Irion Hall, so plan an extra five minutes to walk to the building.
During the final week before a performance, we hold a Saturday afternoon rehearsal in Elmhurst College's beautiful Hammerschmidt Chapel. Concerts are held in Hammerschmidt Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday (early December and early Spring).
Auditions: Membership is open to singers with previous choral experience and/or the ability to read music. You will have a brief, low-key audition with our director to determine vocal strength and range. Please be prepared to vocalize and sing one prepared song (in any language) or The Star-Spangled Banner. At this time, we especially need basses and tenors.
Auditions for the winter-spring 2012 session will be Monday, January 30.
Membership Requirements: To maintain a high quality performance with professional orchestra and soloists, members are financially responsible for 5 tickets to each concert and pay an annual membership fee. You will need to purchase a copy of the score, available at rehearsals. Contact us if you have questions.
If you are new, you may sit in at the first rehearsal before deciding to join. Singers may join us no later than the second rehearsal of a semester.
