Sing with Us!

New members describe our group as friendly and hard working. Some of our members have sung with us for over 20 years! Make new friends while you enjoy singing major classical works and the humor and easygoing nature of our Director, Jim MacDonald.

The Elmhurst Choral Union rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. in Irion Hall on the campus of Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect in Elmhurst (see our Directions page for details). There is on-campus parking (a nice big lot on the north side of Alexander), but it's not right next to Irion Hall, so plan an extra five minutes to walk to the building.

During the final week before a performance, we hold a Saturday afternoon rehearsal in Elmhurst College's beautiful Hammerschmidt Chapel. Concerts are held in Hammerschmidt Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday (early December and early Spring).

Voice Placement: Membership is open to singers with previous choral experience and/or the ability to read music. A brief meeting is required with our Director during which individuals will vocalize and sing one prepared song (in any language). At this time, we especially need basses and tenors.

Voice placement for the 2008-2009 season will take place on Monday, 9/22 in Irion Hall. Please contact us to schedule a meeting time or call 630-758-1100.

Membership Requirements: In order to maintain a high quality performance with professional orchestra and soloists, there is an annual membership fee. You will need to purchase a copy of the score, available at rehearsals.

If you are new, you may sit in at the first rehearsal before deciding to join. Singers may join us no later than the second rehearsal of a semester. Membership fees are also due no later than that second rehearsal.
